Apple has managed to sell more iOS devices in less than five years than it sold computers in 28 years of Mac OS boxes.
Its company’s position as a consumer technology giant is underlined by figures from analyst Asymco, which shows that the firm has sold twice as many iOS devices in less than five years than it did computers.
The analyst organisation claims that Apple sold 122 million Mac OS devices in 28 years, while it is shown that the company has managed to sell well over double that figure in less than five years.
Apple’s iOS is likely to see a further upgrade with the launch of its iPad 3 in March.
Recent research compiled by Gartner found that Apple’s iPhone is the most popular mobile phone in the world, having accounted for 19 per cent of all smartphone sales throughout 2011.
It also accounted for 23.8 per cent of all sales during the fourth quarter of last year.
