A new study has highlighted the popularity of full touchscreen devices, which may inspire those currently recycling mobile phones.

Samsung Electronics has revealed that in the 12-month period ending in November 2009, it estimates that it has been able to sell 40 million devices equipped with such technology.

This is in comparison to a year before, when the number was closer to ten million and, according to the manufacturer, is reflective of the continuing popularity of the models in its range.

JK Shin, executive vice-president and head of Samsung Electronics’ mobile communications division, said the figures also show that there has been “remarkable growth” in the sector.

“Consumers increasingly enjoy the user experience and convenience that these devices put at their finger tips,” he added.

Models in the firm’s range that come with a full touchscreen interface include the new Genio Touch.
